Dry Eye Syndrome

The most common cause of dry eye is inflammation (swelling) of the oil tear glands. The most common symptoms are excess eye watering, redness, and mild burning. Studies show that over 50% of all adults suffer from dry eye syndrome, often without realizing.

Causes of tear gland inflammation range from systemic inflammation, allergies, metabolic disorders such as diabetes, hormone changes, thyroid disease, medication, or infection. Over time, blocked tear glands progress to chronic red eye and corneal disease.

Tear gland dysfunction is easily treated at our office with medicated eyedrops, oral medications, supplements, or dietary changes.
