Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a condition in which the pressure of the eye causes damage to the optic nerve. Patients typically cannot feel when the pressure is too high, and are often unaware that any damage that has occurred until they have permanently lost vision.

Because the condition is typically painless, and the vision loss is permanent, we test every patient for glaucoma each year. At the conclusion of your exam, you will be shown an image of your optic nerve and our doctors will evaluate the health of the nerve fibers with you.

If necessary, glaucoma is often in our clinic with prescription eyedrops that lower the pressure of the eye.
