Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration is the leading cause of vision loss in the United States. It typically affects people over the age of 65, and is the result of metabolic damage within the retina of the eye.

Other signs of metabolic damage that are likely to cause or worsen macular degeneration include obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or high blood sugar. Macular Degeneration risk can be lessened by exercise, diet, and not smoking. Evidence also suggests increasing Omega-3 DHA in our diet reduces risk, as does decreasing Omega-6.

During a routine eye exam at Trusted Eye Care we examine your retina for signs of macular degeneration and metabolic damage and recommend treatment when necessary. Macular health can also be monitored at home with an Amsler Grid. We also supply magnetic Amsler Grids at no charge.
